Three Red Hartebeest breaks with the dramatic mood and atmosphere of all other photographs in the Pride of Africa collection.
Call it a lucky shot during the long hot days in the Etosha region of Namibia.
It was extremely hot already in the early morning hours, waiting for an exciting scene to happen.
A group of hartebeest came along to graze in the open plains.
When all three antelopes looked in the same direction with their heads in the same position, it felt like the time was standing still. They seemed so calm and undisturbed. What a peaceful moment.
The extreme sunlight reflected the shadows of their heads and horns onto their bodies. It would be wonderful to emphasize their dark silhouette to the contrast of the grass. After trying different exposure times to get a right balance, eventually I chose to over exposure the scene … and an incredible picture emerged.
The Hartebeest’s brown fur appears like a silky and smooth coat, the grass and sky blend and almost merge into each other.
An artist with a brush and a canvas could not been better …
